14 years ago today I married my best friend. It was an overcast, cool autumn day with some light rain in the morning; not at all like the beautiful autumn day we have today. Despite the weather, the day was perfect and it’s hard for me to believe that so much time has passed. Brad and I knew from the time we got engaged that we wanted a fall wedding. It’s our favorite season. There is nothing like the colors, smells and textures of fall here in Central PA; the crisp morning air and sound of falling leaves blowing along the ground. It’s magical.
In honor of this special day and this beautiful time of year, I have rounded up some of my favorite fall wedding ideas and inspiration. I hope you get some inspiration from these beautiful images. If you aren’t planning a wedding, you may still be able to find inspiration for decorating your home, or other party or event.
Bales of Hay
Stacked bales of hay and mums are classic fall decor. Whether you are dressing up your ceremony or reception venue or just looking for some ideas to decorate your front door or patio, this is easy to recreate.
Hay bales can be found all over the place this time of year. They are inexpensive and can make a big impact when used well. Stack them to create multiple levels for display whether it’s signs, photos or just flowers. You can also used them to line the walkway into your ceremony and/or reception.
I’m also loving the lanterns. Unless yours are made to be outside, you may want to save them for a covered area out of the weather, but you can’t deny this is a beautiful look.
Add texture and warmth to your palette with slides of natural wood cut from logs. Your wedding doesn’t have to be rustic for this to work. Whether it’s for based for your centerpieces, used to make tiered plates for your dessert table or used as end-markers for your ceremony rows. This is such a great way to add some natural elements to your wedding decor.
Pumpkins in any color make great fall wedding day decor. Leave them natural or paint them, it doesn’t matter. Use small pumpkins or gourds as name card holders or mark your sweetheart table. My personal favorite is using them as a base for a beautiful bouquet!
Whether used as decoration, your wedding favor or a fun name card holder, apples are a great and wonderfully fragrant way to add color and natural elements to your fall wedding. They are in season in the fall so you’ll be able to score them at better prices than other times of the year which is another bonus!
Whether you use real or fake, line the isle with leaves or scatter them around flat surfaces to add color and texture. Gather them into pouches for your guests to toss instead of bubbles to create the opportunity for some beautiful photos.
Take advantage of the location and time of your wedding by bringing in unique elements that will set your fall wedding apart. An outside, afternoon wedding would be the perfect opportunity to set up old wooden ladders piled with beautiful throws for your guests to grab to stay warm during the ceremony. If the reception is outside, use vintage, metal wheelbarrows as open drink coolers for your guests to easily grab.
When it comes to planning a fall wedding, whether you are thinking rustic or elegant or anything else, take advantage of the season but bringing in different textures and warm colors. The opportunities are only limited by your own imagination.
