Regardless of your kiddo’s age, if you aren’t inspired by their current interests when planning their birthday party, take some ideas from some gender-neutral themes may help get those creative juices flowing. This is especially helpful if you plan to invite both girls and boys to the party. Today I’ve rounded up some of my favorite fun gender-neutral birthday party theme ideas for kids, perfect for your child’s next birthday party.
Carnival Theme Birthday Party Inspiration
When researching carnival birthday ideas for this post, I found that a lot of the ideas could be interchangeable with a circus theme too. I love this theme because it works for boys or girls and can be tailored to a variety of age groups. I also love that if you get creative, decorating, games and food really don’t have to be expensive! Plastic tablecloths from the Dollar Store could be used to create the tent entrance like shown in the photos. The same could be used for the tables as well. Homemade games using items you already have around the house will keep the kids entertained and favors don’t need to require any work is you use something like the circus boxes of animal crackers.
Ice Cream Birthday Party Theme Inspiration
Ice Cream themes tend to be most common for girls but I really tried hard to find inspiration that was gender neutral or could be used to inspire a party for a girl or boy. Boys like ice cream too! Again, pulling this theme off doesn’t have to be expensive. A few yards of fabric makes the perfect backdrop for the main food table. Use cardboard or poster board to make fun little awnings.. Use items you already have around the house to make fun ways to display the food or get crafty to use some of the food as decor! I’m especially loving the lower left photo. A few simple custom signs make up the bulk of the decor and it makes a huge impact.
Donut Birthday Party Theme Ideas
Donut theme parties are another one popular with the girls but why can’t the boys join in the fun too? Again, it comes down to colors but that’s easy with so many ways to decorate for this kind of party theme. I especially love the paper lanterns decorated with sprinkles. That simple white cake with donuts as the decoration is also super fun and something you can easily do at home!
Adopt-a-Puppy (or Pet) Theme Birthday Party
This was a theme that I didn’t know about until I was doing my research for the post. As a dog lover, this one was immediately a favorite and the inspiration above is proof that there are so many ways to pull this party theme off. From simple to extravagant, the sky is the limit! I also love that the kids can make collars for their pets as part of the activities. So fun!
Camping Theme Birthday Party Ideas
Coming from a camping family and marrying into one as well, this is another favorite. Once again, the sky is the limit and it’s perfect for boys or girls. Instead of buying premade party supplies, this theme looks more authentic when using things you already have. Old lanterns, if you don’t have them, can often be found at flea markets or thrift stores. Cast iron pans or even paper bags can make perfect food containers!
