We get lots of brides-to-be wondering if there is a proper way to address their wedding stationery. The answer is both yes and no.
Most Save-the-Dates can be addressed informally. You can address it to “Jim & Jolene Rodriguez” or “Mr. & Mrs. Edwards”; or simply “The Jenkins Family”. Make the save the date address reflect your tone of the save-the-date. If your stationery is formal, than by all mean; address your envelopes the same. If it more of the “Hey ya’ll…we’re getting hitched”, then less formal is appropriate.
As far as Wedding Invitations, formal is always better. The old 2-envelope invitation is long since past; so you’ll want to make sure that you are addressing the outside of your envelope to only those you are wishing to invite. For instance, “Mr. & Mrs. Edwards” would lead to the notion that only 2 people are being invited. However, if you address it to the “The Jenkins Family” and are only saving room for 3 people and they RSVP for 6, that might cause a little issue for seating & eating! If you only want to invite a friend and not their on-again, off-again significant other, “Miss Lauren Flowers” is perfect.
However you address your envelopes, formal or informal, make sure that they are consistent. If you are going to abbreviate the state for some of them, do it for all of them; and vise-versa. Consistency is always good.
