The world of printable templates for invitations and other stationery is rapidly growing. I see businesses popping up every day offering their own instant downloads of invitations, planners, art prints and more. If you look long and hard enough, you can even find them for free but most of the best designs that are also fully editable are sold in professional design shops.
As an old school print designer, it was hard for me to come to terms with the fact that I was getting questions daily about offering my own designs as printables. For a long time, it felt like a slap in the face that I’ve worked so hard for so many years to create beautiful designs and then hand-craft physical invitations as works-of-art that cannot be mimicked in mas-produced situations. My invitations always had a special and unique quality to them because they are hand-crafted. Even as a graphic designer, each invitation was more than just the design that was printed into paper.
Each paper choice, embellishment, etc. was carefully chosen to be part of the overall design. In fact, some of the designs were actually created with certain papers and materials in mind. Taking all that away and doing just designs that customers could DIY on their own seemed like dumbing down my work to compete with non-professionals that didn’t care about etiquette or didn’t know the first thing about working with commercial printers, but one thing changed my mind completely and it was simple…the reason I started my business in the first place.
In 2005 after planning my own wedding and then helping my brother and sister-in-law plan their own wedding, one thing stood out to me. There was a serious need to couples to customize their wedding invitations to fit their budgets, styles and colors so their invitations actually represented who they are as a couple and the wedding they are planning. Digging even deeper, I wanted to take that concept of offering ways for customize and personalize their wedding stationery with beautifully and thoughtfully designed options that were also able to be tailored to fit many budgets.
Once I decided to dive into the world of printables it became clear that I wanted to make the process as easy as possible for my customers and enable me to streamline the process of creating and offering new designs regularly which is what I’m excited to share with you today.
A couple months ago, Raspberry Creative was approved to partner up with Templett an online software that allows our customers to not only sample a design before they buy it but have full control over the editing of their designs once they buy it. From adding background colors and patterns to uploading photos to changing fonts, sizes, locations and adjusting layouts of an entire design and once done editing, they can download their choice of file types based on their need and the software helps them figure that out. For customers looking for templates, this is really such an amazing option!
Since receiving our approval to partner with Templett, we have been testing and converting many of the designs we offer in our Etsy shop as well as experimenting with new designs. While we don’t yet have plans to offer this feature here on our website in the immediate future, I wanted to share this new feature with you and let you know that it is available.
Of course DIY options are not for everyone and while many budget-minded customers are going this route, we do still offer fully printed packages. We continue to use only the best paper and materials in the industry and all of our invitations are assembled in our shop, by hand with love, just like they always have been. In addition, we also have some wonderful partners that help from time-to-time with printing that we feel we are not best suited for in-house but even those projects come back here for final assembly.
If you sampled one of the designs, I’d love to know what you think of our new partner. Do you like all the options or would you prefer to leave the design work to the professional? Your opinions matter to us so please leave a comment below and let us know.
