As I’m preparing to decorate our store window for fall, I often look to Pinterest for inspiration. However…this year, I kind knew what I wanted to do. I want to do a “I am nuts over you!” theme. Love the idea of an acorn banner with words on it, and then seeing whatever creative ways that I can incorporate with the acorns or the words within the window. I’ll also be infusing a couple of DIY things in this blog!
So off to Pinterest I went, in search of a few ideas that I might like to try to use with my banner & words. I came across some really cute ideas, which I will be showing you; and some other ideas…well, I won’t be using those. 😉
We have lots of old windows & doors that we can use for display purposes, some of which can even be written on. We also have the use of a chalkboard sign (thinking I’ll be using this outside the shop!) to encourage our local town people to Pop-In and check us out! We have a couple different antique things around as well, so I’ll probably be making the window a great reflection of 2 things with what we have on hand: Love & Fall. I’m going to attempt to not BUY one new thing for the window; but instead to use what we have in a different way.
Last year, I created a “Falling In Love” banner from burlap & paint, and it was a HUGE hit! I recently just made 4 more of those which were sent to different parts of the USA. So this year, I feel like the bar has been set pretty high of fall. I must also admit, it was a great feeling when I came up with something that sparks an interest for so many out there!
Anyway, back to the nutty window! I’m thinking of using some acorns to showcase a candle. This is an easy DIY project. Grab a globe (hurricane is great for this) and add your candle to it. I use battery operated candles on timers for mine. Once you have your candle in the middle, simple drop your acorns in around the sides. You’ll only want to cover about 1/3 of your candle. It’s a quick and easy centerpiece for your dining table, coffee table, or can be used at a wedding. If you don’t have access to acorns, you could you field corn, cinnamon sticks, or any other forms of nuts.
Another DIY project is to simple cover your table (fabric of your choice) for fall. Get some bowls, shallow vases, glass jars or even empty votive candle holders and fill them with different kinds of nuts & berries. It’s a great little way of offering your guests a snack without having to go all-out! Plus, it’s healthy!
Our window is blessed to receive sunshine most of the day. I’m going to try something in the window that I haven’t tried before. I make these “simmering pots” at home with different fruits & spices, and I’m going to try to put one of those in a glass jar and sit it in the window. I’m hoping that with the heat of the sun, it will allow the smell to permeate the shop and be a welcoming treat for our walk-in guests. DIY Simmering Pot that I’m going to try…
Apples & Oranges Simmering Pot – add everything to the pot or slow cooker
- 5 cups water
- 2 peeled navel oranges
- 1 apple sliced in half
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 3 star anise
- Fresh Ginger (1/2 chunk)
- 1 teaspoon cardamon pods
- 1 teaspoon dried cloves
In addition to those 3 things, plus the banner; I’ll have to come up with some other creative ideas! I’ll be sure to post the photos once I have it all done. I’m pretty excited about it. Especially since fall starts tomorrow!
