Last week I began this little series about packing for a business trip by focusing on my list making and then what I’ll be carrying as my personal item and what will most likely be inside. I fell a bit behind this week so today, I’ll be talking a bit about the clothes.
To be honest, I’m still debating my actual wardrobe and I have staged my options in one of our spare bedrooms away from the husband and dogs so that I can keep everything neat and clean while I mix and match and figure out what my best options are. It’s hard because I have never been to Las Vegas or this conference. Aside from photos I’ve dug up online, I really have no idea what to expect.
To begin narrowing down my options I asked myself a few questions and it did help:
- What is the weather? I always start with this question no matter where I’m going.
- How long is the trip? Helps me figure out how much I need to take with me.
- What is the overall dress code for the trip? This questions isn’t always easy to answer.
- Will I need different types of clothing for any of the functions or would it be better to just plan a versatile wardrobe that can work for anything?
The weather, up until a couple days ago, said 90s so I was getting prepared for summer. Now it’s looking like anything from the mid 70s to upper 80s. One thing I’m counting on is the sun.
The trip is just under a week long. We leave for the airport Sunday late morning fly into Las Vegas late Sunday night. Our flight home leaves Las Vegas late Thursday night and we land in Baltimore and drive home Friday. So, six days will be impacted by our travel.
I suspect the overall dress code for the trip is business casual / creative casual. Two of the days are long travel days so casual and comfortable is the plan. Three of the days will be spent at the conference and one day is our “tourist” day. We also know that at least one of the nights we will be attending a networking party hosted by Wedding Wire.
Because I tend to get hot easy, I’m planning mostly dresses that will work for day, but can also transition into evening with maybe a change of jewelry or shoes. It looks like it’s warm during the day but cool at night. For this reason I’m planning to take a light jacket such as my denim jacket or something similar. I will also be taking a pair of dark skinny jeans and a couple of versatile tops because all can be worn dressed up or down.
For shoes I’m planning mostly flats. I have bad knees so heels can really be uncomfortable. A pair of cute sandals, my flats and that’s it. I don’t want to waste suitcase space with shoes I wont wear. If there’s room, I may through in one or two “just-in-case” items but I’m trying really hard to pack smart and not go overboard.
I didn’t get photos of my pile of possibilities but I highly suggest checking out the links below for some really great resources!
