As my Grandmother would say “you kids now days…you can’t do anything without your phone.” Yes, Gram, you are probably right.
Our generation “X” (born from 1965-1980) were the first to really dive into computers, video games, internet and cell phones. Our generation, and many after ours; is sadly, “addicted” to their device. We find it necessary to take it everywhere with us and to always be updating our status via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc…
There are so many things that our phones can do. Pay bills, freeze your accounts, lock your security system at your house, start your car, etc…really, the possibilities are endless. The really cool thing about our phones, pads, tables, etc… is that they are very efficient.
I recently did a search on Wedding App’s on my phone and there are SOOOOOOOOooooooooo many! I believe that the # 1 is probably the app from the Android market is The Knot, which is a FREE app; but I’m sure that if you are an Apple fan that iphone’s have tons of apps too. I’m not sure how the app’s work, but I’m sure that they work for some people.
Me, I’m a little “old-school” I guess. I like binders. I like having a place to write down my thoughts, file my contracts, keep all those pages that have been ripped out from bridal magazines, etc… If you are device driven, then by all means; use the app to the max. Maybe you’ll want to invest in purchasing the app instead of using a free one. And if you are from the generation of keeping your papers together, than a binder is for you.
However, there are some that are “Hybrids”. These people enjoy the daily reminder count-down on the phone with up-to-date list of to-do’s; you like to be reminded of when & where you appointments are, and sometimes, to even be reminded that a 20-minute run is needed so that you can squeeze into your wedding gown. And you are the same person that keeps a binder in the night stand. You look at pictures that you have saved for years, you go over every detail of your vendors contracts, you’ve made a copy of each check before it was mailed and you have your wedding day agenda figured out to the mili-second. being hybrid is a great thing. It’s way of keeping with traditions, but allowing yourself to not be tied-down to a book.
I’m excited for new apps. I’m also excited about traditions. So, while you are out there searching for your perfect wedding planner app; I’ll be here…working on our “COMING SOON” Wedding Planning Binder.
Cheers to the New & Old.
