Last week Jen and I had the pleasure of attending the Wedding MBA in Las Vegas. It’s a three day conference for professionals in the wedding industry. This year 3500 wedding professionals from around the world attended!
During the three days, the sessions are broken out into time slots and during those time slots you have a number of topic options to choose from. Jen and I opted to each attend our own choices of sessions with the idea of us learning twice as much and then setting aside time for us to share with each other what we learned.
By the end of the three days, we both agreed that we learned a lot. There was some overlap from session to session and some of the speakers contradicted each other which was a bit confusing. It was frustrating at first but in the end, I felt that it provided us different points of view and with no true right or wrong, we were able to walk away with information that we can then decide if it’s valuable for us or not to use moving forward.
As a custom stationery company in a sea of wedding planners, photographers and venues, I felt that a lot of the speakers geared their information toward those three groups of people making it hard for us to relate those same concepts to our own business. This was my one big negative overall. For the most part however, the information we learned was new and helpful. I’m really excited about starting to implement things that we have learned.
In addition to learning, Jen and I both loved networking and meeting new people. We even met some other awesome stationers that I’m hoping to stay in touch with. It was so inspiring to meet other stationery companies and feel a sense of community, not competition. We also were excited to meet some wonderful people from State College that we hope to build relationships with.
Of course spending nearly a week in Las Vegas wasn’t bad either. It was the first time for both Jen and I and it didn’t disappoint. You can’t comprehend the size and craziness until you see it in person. I’ll be looking forward to next year!
