five simple tips for planning a Halloween party

pick a theme

Start with a theme / color palette.

Decide early on if you are planning a family-friendly event or an adults-only affair.  Based on your guests, start deciding on a theme for your party.  If you aren’t sure of a theme, at least decide on a defined color palette.

For example, if the kids are coming, consider planning a party that’s less blood and gore and more about spooky, festive elements.  Think silly spiders or a palette or black, white and orange.

For the adults, let your imagination run wild or take inspiration from your favorite scary movie.

encourage costumes

Encourage Costumes.

For adults that aren’t sure about coming in costume, consider creating a diy costume station where guests can grab a mask and a prop to create their own unique look for the night.

you would also entice your guests to come dressed by teasing  a costume contest or setting a specific theme for the night… like everyone coming as their favorite character from a scary movie, etc.

Get Creative with Food.

Whether adults-only for family-friendly, find creative ways of creating your menu.  From turning breadsticks and sauce into spooky “fingers and blood” to spaghetti “brains”.  Have fun with your theme to enhance the event.

Find Decor at Flea Markets and Antique Shops.

When looking for decor, consider skipping the big box stores and head out to your local flea market or antique store.  From candle holders to decorative mirrors, you can often find unique items to create a vintage haunted house style look for very little money.
