When couples begin planning their wedding invitations, one thing couples don’t realize is that they have options when it comes to paper. So, “What kind of paper should you choose?”
Paper choice matters, but not in the way many people assume.
It’s not about choosing the most expensive option or following a trend. Instead, it’s about finding the right balance between look, feel, budget, and personal style. My goal is always to help couples choose paper that feels beautiful, intentional, and appropriate for their wedding, without unnecessary pressure.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how paper choices work in our studio, what we offer, and how to decide what’s right for you.

Our Standard Paper: Thoughtful, Timeless, and Luxurious
Our standard paper is 120lb eggshell cover stock in white or ivory.
This is a high-quality, heavyweight paper with a subtle eggshell texture that adds depth and softness without feeling overly rustic or overly formal. It’s one of my favorite papers to work with because it strikes a perfect balance between:
- Durability
- Elegance
- Print quality
- Cost-effectiveness
In other words, it feels luxurious without driving up the cost, which is exactly what many couples want.
This paper works beautifully for any invitation suite, but it’s not the only option.

A Budget-Friendly Option: 110lb Smooth Paper
For couples who are more budget-conscious, we also offer the option to downgrade to a 110lb smooth cover stock. It’s still a good quality paper, but it’s not quite as heavy and it has a smooth finish. While not a significant cost savings, when budgets are tight, it can be a great option. The downside is, this paper only comes in white, so keep that in mind.
This paper is:
- Slightly lighter in weight
- Completely smooth (no texture)
- Clean and simple in appearance
It’s a great option for couples who:
- Want to prioritize design over paper weight
- Are ordering a larger quantity
- Prefer a very minimal, modern look
Choosing this option doesn’t mean sacrificing quality, it simply means choosing a paper that aligns better with your priorities.
Paper Upgrades: When You Want Something Extra
For couples who want to elevate the tactile experience of their invitations, we offer several paper upgrades.

100% Cotton Paper
Cotton paper has a soft, organic feel and a slightly irregular texture that many couples love. It’s often associated with heirloom-style stationery and works beautifully with classic typography and simple layouts.

Double-Thick Paper (240lb)
Our double-thick option is 240lb paper, which is essentially two sheets bonded together.
This paper is:
- Extremely thick and rigid
- Substantial in hand
- Ideal for couples who want a bold, luxe feel
It’s important to note that this option is very sturdy and dramatic — which some couples love, and others find unnecessary. It’s less about being “better” and more about whether that level of thickness fits your vision.

Using Colored Paper as an Accent
We also offer colored paper options, which are especially popular for details cards.
Rather than printing an entire suite on colored stock, many couples choose to:
- Keep the invitation itself neutral
- Add color through a details card or RSVP
- Use soft blues, greens, or muted tones as accents
This approach adds personality and interest while keeping the overall suite timeless and cohesive.

Envelope Options: More Customization Than You Might Expect
Our standard envelopes match our invitations — white or ivory eggshell — creating a classic, polished presentation.
However, envelopes are one of the easiest ways to personalize a suite.
We offer a wide range of colored envelope options that can be special ordered, allowing couples to:
- Add subtle color
- Coordinate with their palette
- Create a memorable first impression
Soft blue, sage, blush, and neutral tones are especially popular choices.
So… How Do You Decide?
When helping couples choose paper, I always encourage them to consider three things:
1. Personal Style
Do you love classic and understated?
Modern and minimal?
Romantic and soft?
Your paper should support your design, not compete with it.
2. Budget
Paper upgrades are exactly that, upgrades. They’re never required, and choosing standard options doesn’t make your invitations any less beautiful.
3. The Overall Look You’re Going For
Some weddings call for subtle elegance. Others lean into drama or texture. Neither is wrong, it’s about what feels like you.

Final Thoughts
Paper choice is one of those details that feels overwhelming at first — but it doesn’t have to be.
In our studio, every option we offer is thoughtfully chosen, high quality, and designed to work beautifully with our collections. Whether you stick with our standard paper or opt for an upgrade, the goal is always the same: wedding stationery that feels intentional, refined, and true to you.
If you’re ever unsure, that’s exactly what I’m here for, to help you make choices that feel confident and comfortable, not pressured.
